Tread Water
how do you love someone
who does not reach out
how do you have patience
when the person,
has none themselves
how do you bond
when they treat your truth
like explicit profanity
how do you help someone
so damaged by trauma
that there is nothing you can do
how do you relate to someone
for whom, it is never enough
it’s just treading water
