Useful Idiot
I was—
at least—
a useful idiot…
Yet,
an idiot
nonetheless.
Not so much
on the frontline—
in corporate battledress.
the court jester—
forced to juggle and jest.
But now I know
that whatever it was
that I was meant to do,
whatever expectation
or ongoing test,
however I was meant to be the best—
in the end,
I was a useful idiot,
one, at least, who tried their best.
And now I know
an unpalatable truth:
that our politics
are so very tough.
And a useful idiot
with a deadly dose of truth—
I was never enough.
