Sun Shines Down
Woke up early,
out on the road,
sun shines
as I snake my way
up the hills.
I look okay,
the worry
not so daubed
on my eyes.
Villages, farms,
remote housing —
it all goes by,
as I catch
some thoughts,
and that spring sun
reaches down
from the sky.
You know in life,
I’ve always tried,
and my past,
even with its bends
and bows,
never leans
that neat
And I have been fortunate
with my landings,
because so many
have been on my feet,
and so many
cradled
by an understanding.
So today,
I tried to look
and feel smart.
There is no
imposter syndrome,
but there was once a boy
who was so alone,
and never thought
they would take part.
Woke up today,
out on the road,
sun shines,
and as I snake my way
up the hills,
I know this life,
our life —
it is mine.
