Competition

the competition is interesting
but what is the competition?
i am not sure of the rules
am i meant to be like them
have they passed an exam
am i foolish
do i not understand
it is just, if they are right
why are they so unhappy?
why do they struggle to sleep at night?
i can accept being wrong
but i will not concede if they –
do not know the words to the winners song
of if when they are up on the podium
they look uncomfortable and wrong
the competition is interesting
i like being compared
but any idea,
that i am laid low and going spare
that life lacks tinsel or perfection
that my smile has nothing to share
is simply the wrong direction
