Play the Game
i hope he plays the game
that he weathers the storms
and shields you from the rain
i hope he does –
what i obviously could not
i hope you remember you
and it does not become forgot
i hope the pretence,
is somehow maintained
woe betide him –
if he does not stop your rain
i hope you shine for others
when others look on
and you seek their approval
i hope he is still there
with his love and care
woe betide him –
if he stops playing the game
and let’s hope –
you never notice the rain
