Childhood Lasts a Lifetime – Written Tuesday 3rd December 2019 (Aged 44)

Childhood Lasts a Lifetime

childhood lasts a lifetime
that is –
what we do not realise
it does not vanish in adulthood
or disappear into the skies

childhood lasts a lifetime
that is —
the undeniable truth
it never leaves you
it never leaves you
it never leaves you

childhood lasts a lifetime
we hope that –
perhaps it moves on
our adulthood offers no solutions
parts of us are still young
parts of us are still young
parts of us are forever young
parts of us are still damaged

childhood lasts a lifetime
like splinters –
stuck in your personality
like bruises that never heal
like abuse –
that refuses to heal
like abuse –
that still feels real

childhood lasts a lifetime
it never really goes
adulthood has taught me this lesson
and in my every moment i suspect it shows
childhood lasts a lifetime
