We Were So Young – Written Saturday 8th July 2006 (Aged 31)

We Were So Young

when you planned to marry her
we were so young
we had not even completed a circuit
when i loved her
i thought getting old –
was for others
and not, somehow, for me
i thought if we laughed enough
we would be free
it seems so long ago
hot days with blistered feet
aberdeen in the snow
the night with the christmas tree
should we stay, or should we go
shoved into the boots of cars
suddenly fearing for your life
falling and falling and falling
it was my drink that they tried to spike
we were so young
so fearless, so reckless
of almost complete self destruction
we were so young
