Wildfires – Written Thursday 9th January 2020 (Aged 44)

Wildfires

have you seen the world lately
its tears
cannot quench the wildfires
that continue to burn
but power and wealth
refuses or sees no need to learn
bombs exchanged like children
fighting over a toy

have you seen the world lately
its tears
cannot quench the wildfires
that continue to burn
the poverty and extremism
takes its hostages
and here, our vile press
demonises every human refugee

have you seen the world lately
it is crying so much
it yearns for action
and a little love
it knows that it will continue to turn
but its tears
cannot put out
the wildfires that continue to burn

have you seen the world lately?
