As a Friend? – Written Monday 25th September 2000 (Aged 25)

As a Friend?

love me as a friend
not as a lover
love me till the end
of this gritty town
love me only when i am near
our relationship was as long as our dreams
and as short as this town’s pier
love me as a loser
a loser, just dreaming their life away
love me like a talent
who is painting ever day
you left a few years ago
sometimes we just need to be free
and with a future in your goblet
you are happy to let the blame lie with me
love me as a sculpture
or an option in your future
love me now, as a friend
one who flirts with everyone
but pity the poor woman who touches me
she still feels the venom on your tongue
love me in the future
when the spectre of our past is gone
