Truths Come With Sharp Edges
they use death to reinvent him
into the person he never was
they reimagine him.
and clothe him in much softer cloth
the father figure,
the happy go lucky man
always ready with a helping hand
they use death to reinvent him
into someone he never was
reality and truths come with sharp edges
so they are quickly lost,
it is selfish,
to own it as your own
when it is not yours to own
to change it to suit your needs
and nowhere does it leave me
they use death to reinvent him
into a person he never was
my stories, my truth,
cut from an unappealing cloth
my loss, my experience, my feelings
can it seems, be easily lost

Truths Come With Sharp Edges – Written Monday 17th February 2020 (Aged 45)

Hi James this really resonated with me, as I had the same when my Mum died.
She was reborn as a gregarious angel to many family and friends, yet our relationship was fraught with conflict.
If she had not been my Mum I’d have walked away from the toxicity many years before to protect my own mental health.
The last five months with Mum were terrible in many ways, only knowing she was reaching the end of her life kept me in there.
It was a terrible relief when she died. The cruelty and perpetual criticism had ended. I’m still reeling from the shock and loss.
Much love ❤️
Helen
