Free – An untitled and undated piece. I suspect this was written between 1995 and 1998.

Free

you can take away anything you want
you can take the essence of me
but do not take away my need to be free
you can have my secrets
and the stories i tell
you can take my vanity
but do not take away my space
and my need to be free
you can doubt the expression on my face
sit around my house,
say, the garden, isn’t it lovely…
you can take almost anything you want
but do not take away my need to be free
you see me when you are out
you can be out of your tree
you can scream and shout
but do not take away my need to be free
it is that, is is that which keeps me going
and that is me
