Compliment
i am standing,
everytime a compliment is thrown
i reach out to catch it
but i move at the last moment
i am standing,
with arms outstretched
as a child never seen or heard
and always told, i am second best
as i knelt down with dustpan and brush
cleaning up other peoples mess
i am standing,
and from deep inside
the shyness looks out
with childhood eyes
i am standing,
waiting to receive the pass
it is thrown, and it sails through the air
my arms outstretched
but i cannot catch it, i am not there
