A Close Second
what do you do
when at best, your best –
seem little better
than an ill educated guess
i have been underachieving –
for many years
i am the living testament
to the idea that what is between your ears –
on increases wider fears
my brains have only ever gone to waste
that is hardly personal news
just as formative years –
were lost to insecurity and the smell of booze
i do not work as i should
i am the nearly man of self pity
if only i actually could –
make my way to that personal liberty city
what do you do
you wake up, get out of your box –
and there are no absolute guarantees
and the world it wants you to jump
but i just struggle to see
i guess, when we look, you can only be you
and me, well i can only ever be me
