I Knew I Would Be Found Out One Day – Written November 2006 (Aged 31)

I Knew I Would Be Found Out One Day

i knew i would be found out one day
once they scratched beneath the gloss
once the cracks started to appear
i knew that they would see my loss
i knew there would be the stench of fear
alone on the high seas without a lighthouse
and wondering when it would become clear
i knew i would be found out one day
the wallpaper could only ever last for a while
there are only so many cracks you can disguise
and there is misery underpinning every smile
yet happiness, that is the true colour of my eyes
i cannot dilute the taste of my past
and my future seems to be in watercolours
i wonder if it has the strength to last
but you know, in my life, there is another
i knew i would be found out one day
