Not The Lifeboat I Once Was

i am sorry –
that i am swimming away from you
i am sorry –
that i am not the lifeboat i once was
i am sorry –
but feeling for you,
for over a decade and three
has been amazing
but personally, so costly
i am sorry –
i cannot be the lighthouse i should
you know, one day
i hope i can shine that light once again
and i know i would
if only i could…
i am sorry –
i just wanted you to understand
almost above all else
i thought you knew me
almost more than myself
i am sorry –
i have to swim away
i am sorry –
that i am not the lifeboat i once was
