we poked fun at her
when her perceived stupidity –
made people –
feel better about themselves
we damned her
when society felt like it was failing
we made her queen of all that was wrong
we celebrate –

treating them like circus freaks
nudging them into the ring
and promising them all the riches –
of the world
laughing at them, not with them
urging them to dance and sing
provoking them, say something ignorant –
just anything
in the end the craving –

the kind that was never given in their childhood
but she had to die
what a terrible and tragic price to pay
