It Should Not Be This Way
it should not be this way
somehow unprofessional
with me on the outside
you were right all along
because i am always aware
inside i can be a ticking bomb
never quite made it,
whether it be out of the trench
or to a sweet arrival on a park bench
my loose change my only modesty
that saves us all from light
and a shaky reality
it should not be this way
a wry smile and one eye always open
never taking seriously what i see
when i should be expressing
what so many mean to me
