Grief is Not One Mountain (But a Range) – Written November 2012 (Aged 37)

Grief is Not One Mountain (But a Range)

i struggle with the aspects
grief is not one mountain
but a range
and it is that,
that makes it difficult and strange
i accept death
i accept the cancer
that sped like a bullet train
with every destination
a terminus of pain
i struggle with the smaller moments
the visit, the tea,
the phone call,
no more pictures of cats
the work tales,
omitting the smallest facts
the gap is in inside
the one the sea of time never finds
because now,
the tide will always be out
i can accept,
the coldness and numbness of people
who claim to be caring
and i warm to the quiet ones
who love is embedded, bold and daring
but the aspects
are in all the shapes and sizes
grief is not one mountain
it is a whole range
each one is full of surprises
and each one is tackled with a weight like pain
