He Plays His Cards
he plays his cards
i watch and listen
having played –
the game myself
i have seen it all before
all those years ago
when his ego was shattered
when he did what he liked
and when it did not matter
now he decides –
he loved her after all
that he has been blind
but now he has heard the call
with the kind of –
breathless excitement
that is always hard to contain
does he think –
that he has won again
he plays his cards
and that card is the card of love
face up, there on the table
i have seen it all before
i can only hope he does love her
and that he is completely sure
