I Looked Darkly Through the Gloom – Written Between Tuesday 15th February 1994 and November 1994 (Aged 18/19)

I Looked Darkly Through The Gloom

i looked darkly through the gloom
future life glows on the city skyline
fires do rage,
turn the night time into day time
i run quickly over to the house
and she is sat in the room
a nervous pair of eyes
shifting quickly, side to side
the soul wants to escape
i turn to the door, he is standing there
i look at him, halting him
but i knew he can help
he smiles smugly with power
we form a circle,
and she stops weeping
my mind tried to ease –
feeling like i need to be sleeping
we start travelling back and forth
we wake up to black
and i am dying,
i realise that i am back home
i can hear my body and it is crying
i rush to the mirror,
i look so much younger
her cries are constant
and happiness seems to linger
i rush to her room
and i hold her in my arms
i have seen the future, i have seen her grow
i want to change the world
to prevent the children coming from any harm
