Nostalgia Drug – Written Wednesday 21st April 2021

Nostalgia Drug

as a young person
you are buried in choice
and overwhelmed –
with things –
that you do not know
you have too many maps
and you do not know –
where it is you should go

as an older person
you are mugged and drugged –
by nostalgia
the drug –
forces you to reminisce
and erase –
the more painful bits
it takes the dull manmade light
and makes it falsely shine

nostalgia –
people bathe in the stuff
harking back –
to days –
that in reality,
just collapsed
they fell from our nervous hands
into the cold comfort of our lap
nostalgia,
the falsehood of looking back
