Buried Ghosts – Written Tuesday 4th July 2000 (Aged 25)

Buried Ghosts

buried ghosts
buried deep,
past the barriers of my sleep
no more walking tall
the axe has to fall
no more going back
and looking over your shoulder
what once, was young and warm
is now frail and so much older

buried ghosts
you wanted it to be over
a fragile memory laying inside
viewed occasionally,
even though it had died
some things just push you forwards
so far forwards,
that there is no going back

buried ghosts
buried up to their neck in memories
chained to the past
things like that
they are always destined to last

James Garratt – Tuesday 4th July 2000
