Always Hard to Open – Written Monday 10th May 2021 (Aged 46)

Always Hard to Open

i saw pieces of your childhood
tumble out of your toybox
and across the playroom floor
i saw a bottle of your attachment
and it had spilt, all over the floor
i saw your world
struggle with its chores
what do we do –
about the things that cannot be fixed
when age gathers speed
and forces you downhill
clinging to your knees
it is the cuts and bruises of the past
that begin to bleed
i saw pieces of your childhood
caked in broken glitter
and old fashioned colours
i saw faded photographs
inside an album
one, that was so hard to open
