Sadness
i find sadness difficult
after all,
there has been so much sadness –
in my life
i find myself shutting down –
going into reserve
sadness,
it reminds me of so much hurt
but sadness has always been here
ready to take me by the scruff
ready to weigh me down when –
it is all too much
my parents were sad
and carried untold sadness
untold till the days they died
carried like an unwelcome gift
and all of our lives –
often soaked up their sadness
particularly when we were young
but i had no predisposition
to being a sponge
it was not my place, not my job
it was not even my role
i find sadness difficult
it has a unique type of hold
