A Fruit Flavoured Ice Tea
sat by the river –
and i drank a fruit flavoured ice tea
i made my way home
i drove alone, lanes and roads –
they were overgrown with my memories
felt close to a childhood
i had known some twenty three years earlier
close but still not within touch
i thought about birth
i thought explanations and fate
and i thought, it is a long way to come
from the womb and into the cot
and by the river –
drinking a fruit flavoured ice tea
with someone who means everything to me
i made my way back here
the future is a hanging basket
the past, just a novelty tear
