You Really Hurt Me
you really hurt me,
i know,
it is not much of a statement
it is just a bunch of words
the tag in the back the coat
the one worn by the hurt
the one that keeps out the cold
but that coat is threadbare,
it does not keep out the cold
that is why people think no one cares
you really hurt me,
it is not a cake –
or a card that people give
it does not build a house
in which people wish to live
and when you say the words
what do they actually mean
because, how many times have i said it
since i was young and sixteen
you really hurt me,
i know,
it is not much of a statement
it must feel like innocent words
and it does not reveal –
the devastation caused
how it takes you to a great height
and then tries to push you forwards
