I Managed a Smile

i managed a smile
i have managed to stay alive
i have managed a whole lot more
i have managed a friendship
of which i am not so sure
so, i stumble around here –
trying to avoid pavement cracks
i managed a card
a present and a strange heart
i managed a smile
i have managed to stay away
but being real
is hard when all around is fake
giving is hard
when all around just seems to take,
in today’s world
i managed without style
and today that is quite something
i managed a smile
