Drowning Is Not Fun
how many times –
has the surface been above me
how many times?
drowning is not fun
trying to use your lungs
how many times?
my personality is in question
my attitude is in doubt
but i believe,
and believe me, i will kick and shout
irrational, stubborn, awkward
tell the mason to start work
you do not have to be alone
and those words,
they will be on my headstone
scratched there by half bitten nails
how many times –
has been the surface above me
like a reality to be touched
drowning is not fun
so thank you, thank you for your love
