Overstuffed Suitcase – Written Wednesday 28th April 2021 (Aged 46)

Overstuffed Suitcase

you must cradle your identities
as if –
it is water –
running through your hands
because you must know
that your insecurity
is one art installation
that you have –
never put on public view
you must hide your past
put the clothes and other things away
put them into an overstuffed suitcase
some people might consider –
a fake beard –
a poor disguise
some people have a real beard
and it still fails to hide
live a lie, live a lie, live a lie!
you must almost choke
from the pretentious sentences
that swill around in the back of your throat
your past must be very cold
without an appropriate coat
and i have to ask, are your true memories
always denied the vote?
