Ideals – Written January 2013 (Aged 37)

my labels change
who am i socially today
will change tomorrow
and the, ‘welfare state’
is chained to a fate
of constantly shifting ideals
life comes down to a moral impasse
or perhaps a plural
and do i achieve the big city
or just leave it all looking rural
our labels change
in the shifting political sands
benefits and defined tables
at which we are all asked to sit
welfare labels,
that change but often do not fit
