You Was Not There -Written Friday 28th September 2007 (Aged 32)

You Was Not There

i have listened to you
tell me how it was when i was a child
as if you were actually there
oh,
how the guilty middle class love to patronise
pat you on the head and ruffle your hair
complete with towering opinions
built on shaky ground destined to crumble
i have listened to you
and watched your smile as it fumbles
every opinion you say
i have seen for sale in a church jumble
but you was not there
nonetheless you like to tell me what you think
but you was not there
still you like to tell me how it happened
but you was not there
do you notice a pattern here?
maybe i need to write it and you need to read it
just once more,
you were not there
how can you preach to me, you do not even care
