Broken Promises
i shy away –
from peoples poor presentation
it makes me uneasy
their roller coaster mental health –
leaves me queasy
and confrontation –
never comes that easy
so i shut down –
in a way that looks like avoidance
i mis pronounce my name –
because that is my experience
it appears there are people of a certain age –
who are happy for, ‘wine-o-clock’ –
to be the reminder of a slow death
the type where they swallow –
all the things in life that they did not expect
in fact every broken promise –
can attempt to catch their breath
