I Tell You – Written Friday 20th October 2015 (Aged 40)

I Tell You

i tell you
it is the mortgage payments
it is the expense
it is the husband
who always comes with a, ‘but…’
it is the person
who always swings from the hip
and is always part of the golf club

i tell you
the drive does not always lose gears
but age can be a cage
and fears are –
the bait which hungry sharks circle

i tell you
the cold cling to their past
when the choices hardly even matter
when they partied so hard
but emotionally –
you end up dealing in cards
but the deck is fixed
and days gone by
somehow become sorely missed

i tell you
it is the new build houses
the alcohol dispensed
the anniversary presents given
but never really meant
