Friend Most Likely
i have always been the friend
most likely to wear a guise
the friend,
most likely,
to live in boxes hastily designed
i have the image
from which i dare not escape
a slightly patronising view
as they look down on my, ‘traits’
i watch,
as others find the deft touch
as for me,
when it comes to the rough and tumble
i am just left feeling rough
with room in my own jumble
selling off what i should be
maybe others should know,
what they mean to me,
i have lived out so many people
performed in other peoples plays
call me paranoid,
but that is how it weighs
for others it seems,
i can only be a certain view
the mantlepiece clock
or a rack with no shoes
i have always been the friend
most likely to wear a guise
