Electronic Wonderland – Written Wednesday 12th December 2007 (Aged 32)

Electronic Wonderland

they do not know –
yet you have found the perfect arena
one where you can hold a daily parade
no one knows you
and in this place –
you do not have to spend actual time –
with actual people
and you do not have to reveal who you are
so you pick –
a few carefully chosen words
and they appear to take you far
this is you electronic wonderland
the substitute for real life
a place where you escape those tags
you’re no longer mum or somebody’s wife
the thing is,
no one actually knows you
none of these people have spent time with you
they’ve just had the electronic online version
which is of course perfectly distilled
it never reveals who you really are
or, god forbid, how you actually feel
you have found the perfect arena
where you can hatch all of your plans
taking sucker from the text on the screen
how you must love your electronic wonderland
