I Want To Know?

i have got the bit between my teeth
the sand between my toes
the gravel beneath my feet
i don’t like being treated this way
especially –
when i have done nothing wrong
i do not like people pretending
especially –
when there are these moral plateaus
that people place themselves upon
how come they can judge you in an instant
they seem to know at least –
that the string is always long
i have got the bit between my teeth
the sand between my toes
the gravel beneath my feet
and the anger, the anger does not go
i want to know what i have done wrong
i want to know?
