Inevitability – Written February 2002 (Aged 26)

Inevitability

i only criticise because you have changed
i have changed!
i know we are no longer equal
it’s not the same
we used to be happy amateurs
on some great life adventure
but you cannot write plays all your life
eventually have to act
you have to take up your part
i only criticise because i see you falling apart
sleeping away the day
you can no longer justify behaviour
that you could when you were young
that is when life changes
and you have to redefine your fun
i am not better than you
i do know that being enlightened when you’re older
means the world moves on
and inevitability might mean it becomes colder
