Remember? – Written Tuesday 12th February 2002 (Aged 26)

Remember?

remember,
when through loneliness
you considered cheating on your husband
and you say that you didn’t
but you did, you left yourself exposed
remember,
when you found the thorn and not the rose
suddenly our morals are different
and suddenly, someone else is to be blame
remember,
remember the invitation –
it’s true, you almost came
and now the snide remarks with days so dark
who are you to question me?
remember,
do not pretend that you are anything special
please don’t tell me that you are a prize
when you are the sawdust from the raffle
and the lies are just the smudge beneath your eyes
remember?
