Do You Remember
do you remember –
how rude you were to me
under the idea –
that you were drunk
or that you were not thinking
easy to –
just blame it on the drinking
now i see –
the person you long to be
but to be honest,
the insults bounce off me
and i have seen unspoken screams
fall out of the highest dreams
it’s not the rudeness
but it takes me back to my teens
yet there is that time
that i protected you
not because i am perfect
but because of your fragility
it’s not the alcohol –
that causes double vision
just the abuse that scars your reality
and that is why i defended you
because of that vulnerability
