Conditions and Disorders
people list their conditions and disorders –
and statements with immense pride
using it to sketch the outlines –
of self perceived trouble lives
demanding to be treated equally
they talk of suffering –
as if it has only happened to them
like it is a personal fashion
a phrase, an ongoing trend
lofty ladders in life
like graphs we explain
look at the curvature of the line
it peaks at my personal pain
yet for all this,
this tide that swells from the stormy sea
it does not change out worlds
how i treat you, how you treat me
did you ever think i may have suffered
and that i carried the responsibility
on a back that at times felt broken
i will not shrink into shadows
and i will not offer paltry tokens
