I Was Married Once
i was married once
and,
i said what i had to say
i planned christmas and every holiday
we held dinner parties,
where i served up –
what remained of my soul
the lessening of our mortgage
appeared to be our only goal
i was married once
and,
i danced to a tune of societal expectation
wring girl, wrong boy (man?)
my god, it was the wrong situation
leaving,
sadly required no explanation
i cut down the tress
and then the wild flowers
i sold my thoughts to a pretty trader
who in return, only gave me hours
