People Ask How I Am
people ask how i am
i say,
i am fine
but i know they understand
they know –
that i am still quite sad
and that parts of me
are still quite mad
people ask how i am
and how i am feeling
i laugh it off
but i am still reeling
and part of me is still seeking
but life goes on
children still play in the playground
vehicles still plough lonely roads
those feeling the cold
no, it is not their clothes
people ask how i am
i say,
i am fine
and then they squeeze my hand
