Empire Children
In the late Victorian era –
and in the early part of the 20th century
they built schools,
and they had wooden desks
their version of,
speak and spell
education was never your noble quest
but nonetheless they taught you
and they taught you about,
indoor play when it rained
but they never taught you about change
coping mechanisms and emotional intelligence
well, they were never explained
and although they had built all those schools
for the empire children,
and all the empire fools
straight edged measurements
and pointless rules,
those lost days come down with so much rain
they built schools
but empire children were never taught change
and in turn, never prepared for the rain
