I Should Have Listened to What People Said

i should have listened to what people said
i should have held their words much closer still
after all I could have easily guessed
this is how you would make me feel
i was warned about you
and told it would end in tears
i was told you need to understand friendship
and I knew you were a prisoner of your fears
i should have listened to what people said
just as when you said
that i meant the world to you
and you wanted to give me a hug
i should have listened more carefully
to the hollow sound of the grave freshly dug
but once again I find myself with helping hands
and it is so much, when will I learn
but more the case, when will I truly understand?
