Working Shifts

i see them
struggling to make headway
large institutions
always have their say
i see their vulnerability
as they try to hold on tight
stand their ground
hoping their truth will be found
among,
the brick bats and the fights

i see a softer side
and something caring
if they hold dear
the idea,
of, speak truth to power
then i know,
the problems they will face
from the standing up
to not knowing their designated place

it is hard
working shifts with men
with a workforce
embedded in emotionally debt ridden culture
where,
you swim to avoid circling vultures
