The Person We Would Like to Be

people hope –
you are the person you portray
having never met you –
they go on what you say
we all need to believe –
that we are not alone
and that if no one is home
or if we have no one to call our own

people want –
to believe that someone understands
and if you tell them –
that you do
then as trusting souls
they will surely believe you
and the more they hope
then you play up to this
and target what you write
it is a cycle of hope
but not as they say, the truth
