I Want to Be More Than a Diary Entry

i want to be
more than a diary entry
a name on the page
just a name under a date
i do not want to be a side dish
to your main plate
i do not want to run around –
after you
just chasing your pretty face
when i know i would be lucky
to take second place
there is more to this life
than begging on my well worn knees
you may need to learn
you do not have a priceless fee
i want to be
more than a diary entry
