They Taught You About Second Best
you compared yourself to my brother
i have your words here,
you described yourself with victims colours
in truth, it should have been those of fear
you said that you were just another,
and that no one cared for me
you compared yourself to my brother
you will never come close to the branches on his tree
you made me into something you fear
it was your sinking boat
that capsized on your ocean of your plentiful tears
you made me into the father who left
the stepfather who wore out your self respect
the grown ups who taught you all about second best
