All Alone in a Big Bad World (Originally Untitled) – Written June 1999 (Aged 24)

All Alone in a Big Bad World

all alone in a big bad world
on a big bad day
one that steals a dreamers’ dreams
and leaves you with nothing to say
all alone in a classic fairytale
where the ending is all truth and trust
but when you have this golden prize
is it ever going to be enough
all at sea in a boat made like me
floating upon an ocean of dreams
the horizon lies beyond our grasp
and nothing is at it seems
nothing it seems that is destined to last
but there is no need to mourn
no need to fly the flag at half mast
all alone in a place with walls
a thousand and one ideas
but run by these strange looking fools

James Garratt – june 1999
