Look What They Have Done – Written Monday 11th July 1999 (Aged 24)

Look What They Have Done

they have slowly stripped me
of every trick i wear
they have left me shaking
unshaven and long haired
the twist of lemon is in their eyes
they have almost mugged me
for every ounce of self belief
they even tried to steal my feet
i have to come home
and begin a search
for any intelligent thoughts i have
because i have none during the day
they all get sucked away
they have tried to steal every jewel i hold
both intentionally and unintentionally
it is all the same
there is a space in their heads
it is where we keep our brain
